Special Delivery

I put together a mailing last week to go out to certain CEOs and CFOs of companies we would like to work with. I included a small (mailable) gift to the letter to encourage them not only to open our letter but keep the giveaway to remind them of the company.

My supplies included:
Letter head
branded envelopes
luggage tags
tape

Other than my main communication, I included an open space to attach my luggage tag to the letter. I didn't want to have wasted space on my letter so under the area where my luggage tag was attached I included a QR code that lead the recipient to a video about our company. I attached my luggage tag using two pieces of clear tape rolled onto itself like a log.

I attached them on the outside of the QR code so that removing the luggage tag would not damage the QR code- if it's damaged, who knows where it could take them!

Then I placed the luggage tag on top.

Next I addressed all of my envelopes in the same order that the letters were addressed. It made this project easy. Before sealing the envelopes I folded one letter and put it inside of the envelope to weigh it for postage. All other letters would be the exact same weight so I ran the envelopes through the postage machine before stuffing AND sealing them.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

New Client: Lifestyles by Dorian Devine

I love the "newness" of busness ventures! I have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Dorian Devine as she launches her company "Lifestyles by Dorian Devine". This is fun! I mean we are starting bare bones as far a branding goes! Color scheme, persona, logo...the life of her brand...has unfolded in front of my eyes. This has been one of my most challenging projects but it has also been extreamly rewarding! I have expanded my skill set  and designed her:

Logo
Color Pallette
Website (including figuring out hosting, design and launch!)
Business Cards
Facebook
Twitter
Blog
Post Cards
Marketing plan
Networking Strategy
and Established her business email addres (email her: infobydorian@gmail.com)

So the company info page reads:

If it has anything to do with running a home then I'm passionate about! From cooking, organizing, hanging curtains, hosting a party or simple holiday decorations, I get excited.

Cooking
Cooking doesn't have to be frustrating and boring. If you invest the time and effort needed, the results can be not just good for you, but simply delicous. One on One, hands on private cooking instruction in your own kitchen. I know with a little guidance, you can create wonderful dishes to enjoy.

Kitchen Organization
The reason why the saying "everything has a place" is true because dis-order causes stress. If you cannot find what your looking for when you need it , what is the point of owning it at all? Organization save time and eliminates stress.
Decor
Let me help you bring out the beauty of your home through re-decorating or simple reworking the room's layout.
Entertaining
Would you like to entertaing more? Be the talk of your family and friends circles? Then let me show you how to put together the perfect event and pull it off without the stress.
Lastly, if you don't have the time or ideas for Holiday decorating, the give me a call. Quotes are available for custom services. I will take care of everything from handing the mistle toe to packing away the last tree ornament.

Here are some shots of her online presences and promotional material.

Noir Paris

I just finished an article for my company's blog. Every year they do a trip to Paris to exlpore the history as it pertains to African Americans. I found the subject very interesting to research. Article took 1 day to produce with video.

New Projects

Community Service for me is addictive. Above all other types of promotion, I get the most joy from it. I have decided to allocate more time toward community service promotion in both my personal life as well as my current role in my day job.  Here are some things I really look forward to working with:

Homeless Collection: Dec. 18th, 2011
-Branding a group (as I think is necessary seeing as this is the 3rd year running and growing)
-Preparing promotional material
-Press release for promotion

Toys for Tots:
Since this is one that already exists I will simply be advising the group wanting to get involved to become active and lend their talents. Leading by example, I hope to volunteer on the promotional front. Whatever it takes.

Dress for Success:
Would like to organize a collection for women joining the work force again. I was inspired to do so when I was faced with the question of what to do with 20-some odd pairs of good condition, good quality shoes that I can not wear. If I have something- I know some other people that may like to join in. Looking at mid spring for this one.

Prom dress drives:
I am literally all "dressed up" with no place to go. Looking in my closet the other day I realized I had 4 beautiful gowns and not one event on my calendar to wear them to- let alone 4! One dress is amazing but just not for a woman my age (in my opinion). I was thinking of consigning them but I would really rather give them to girls that I believe could use them for prom/homecoming. I have held on to them with this in mind for 2 years. This year I will move toward gifting them to young ladies who would like them. I am fortunate to live in an area with a Fairy Godmothers organization. Time to link up! (http://www.fairygodmothersinc.com)

Really excited to get my community service fix! :)

Dealing with promotion defeat

It's difficult to deal with defeat-period. It's especially difficult when you are passionate about the cause. Sometimes things don't go as well as you want them to go. Eh, C'est la vie. What's important, however, is what you make of that defeat. Perseverance and courage to accept your failure are two things that will make one wiser. Giving up and placing blame is for those who plateau. I aspire to greater. To get there I have to approach the bad times with the same honesty and tenacity of the good times. No, it's not "fun" to be known as the one who shoulders all of the blame but it is necessary to learn from mistakes to grow from them.

Lesson for this time around:
Start early, Proceed with energy, follow up, execute, repeat.

Community wide collection planned to benefit Delaware County SPCA

Residents are urged to participate in week-long event.

(Wayne, October 24, 2011) – It’s not always easy to make a difference in your community. For one week it will not only be easy but convenient as well.  Beginning November 7, 2011 Rodgers Travel Global Journeys will be hosting what they hope to be a community-wide week-long collection to benefit the Delaware County SPCA.

The Delaware County SPCA is a 501c3 non-profit, charitable organization registered with the Pennsylvania Department of State. Established in 1911 as the Delaware County Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the group has worked for 100 years as a dedicated force for the protection and welfare of animals. From the beginnings of providing watering troughs to today’s organization complete with a Humane Investigation operation receiving 1,000 complaint calls per year; the group is supported almost entirely by private donations. When the Delco SPCA cannot provide care because of a lack of provisions it can become an unfortunate situation.

The SPCA has been working diligently to protect Delaware County’s animals and now you can help. Items collected during the event will be donated to Delco SPCA in the name of the community. A wish list for donations can be found by visiting www.delcospca.org/donations. The list includes items such as peanut butter, newspaper, rice and grooming supplies. The community is encouraged to look over the list as some items can be found in their homes. Items like canned chicken broth and empty plastic Easter eggs- often overlooked in homes- would be of great benefit to the organization.

If you would like to participate in this collection you can bring your items to 512 W. Lancaster Ave (Intersection of Lancaster Ave and Ghallager Ave) Suite C. The collection will run November 7-12, 2011. Monday through Friday drop offs will be accepted from 9am until 5pm and Saturday drops will be accepted from 11am until 2pm. For more information on the collection please call Shannon Henson at (610) 964-1775 x206. To learn more about the Delaware County SPCA visit www.delcospca.org or call (610) 566-1370.

Throwing up Hail Mary's and workin' miracles!

Hi readers!
Your still with me? Awesome. Well a quick update. I am now employed with a firm, love the job, love my boss, enjoy every minute of what I do-even when I'm irritated...which is what it comes to pretty often (but is still fun...is that possible...any-who...)

It absolutely cracks me up when companies ask you to come up with free ways to advertise that will ricochet some grand return on their absent investment. Yeah sure, and during lunch I will find the cure to the common cold and finally organize world peace. à² _ಠ

Yet and still I put on my best smile and tell them I will put my mind to this matter and bring back some ideas.......

WELL THIS TIME IT WORKED! G.T.F*.O.O.H.!

The company I work for now is in an affluent neighborhood (they don't come out and about for beans) in a sub-prime location (there is NO foot traffic) and sells a product that is reliant on the availability of disposable income. How do I get the customer down here? Appeal to their heart.

I found a cause that both our customers and our employees are passionate about and we will be organizing an annual community collection! Brilliant, right!  The charity will advertise us on their site and when potential customers come to donate items we will give them a receipt for tax deduction... neatly be tucked away in our company's information jacket. We win because although we aren't selling anything; we get people to visit our office, we give them our info to take home, and now they will see our company for the caring people we are rather than "those randoms down the hill".  My hope is that this event will help the community get to know and think of us the next time they need our services and that the charity will be able to continue the great work that it is doing.

The charity wins, the community wins and we win. Its a win-win-win! Now that's something to say AMEN to!

Walking for my cups

A friend and I have put together a team to participate in a local Breat Cancer walk with the American Cancer Society. This is a subject very dear to both of our hearts so we are very excited to participate.

I used this opportunity to design a team logo and write a few things for team usage. Since this will be something that we intend to do annually, we will be able to reuse our materials for t-shirts and promotional material. If you would like to donate to our team please visit our site here.

For the purposes of showing my ability, here is the finished product.

.....I need a paper bag......

Okay not really but I am VERY excited! I am bringing my portfolio to view which actually contains: an ad about myself, my cover letter, resume, short article of my activity here on S.R. Henson Marketing, pull out business card and spec ads in Magazine format. Glossy paper and all! The cherry on top is the back cover thank you note and functional Q R code leading those with the capability (most with iPhones) back to this page for a refresher on who I am. If you scanned the bar code and are reading this- Welcome! Thank you for your time and effort.

Hey if your gonna go-go all out! I am waiting to hear back from the Linc on if I can bring drinks. I would really like to offer each person I sit with a cold classic coke-in a glass bottle of course.

Why?

Because....
"Things go better with Coke"

Updates!

I have had some great opportunities open up...word of mouth truly is a great and underestimated tool! Most of the work I a have been doing involved logo design and preliminary research. I was recently asked to assist in positioning a new program to the local YMCA! Yaaaay! I love the Y and the work they do and will be working behind the scenes with Mrs. Traci Carter, Director of Honk 4 Education. The program is designed to help the county YMCA raise money for programs and operational funds that the center is seriously need of. I love the program and I am very happy to be able to help. Right now, I am working on branding and identifiers, a logo, a promo packet and linking up with media outlets to get the word out there about this wonderful program. Thank you Mrs. Carter!

In other (Carter) news, one of my clients has now introduced his company (and logo) so I can now post it here! (Out of respect for the client and him having control over the introduction of his company I did not release it earlier) You can now find the logo for Carter's In-House Productions and Entertainment in my portfolio! Mr. Carter is CEO and Executive Producer of the Production company that currently records and presents musical artists and poets. Thank you Mr. Carter!

Great article

I just read a great article on career advancement. This is great advice that I will take to heart.

Informal Analysis done

I finished a very informal analysis for Creative Sensations. This is just preliminary, hit the ground running stuff, but it is informative. I look forward to doing a formal follow up in a year when there is more info to work with.

View the document here.

All I want for Christmas....

...is a little opportunity- and it looks like I am getting it. Some things have shifted around and now I have the great opportunity to work with the Grammy Academy on planning an event and an up and comming artist! Good Day! I am very excited about the things that will be happening soon. I am going to have to budget my time wisely to develop a product that I can be proud of an I am eager to start!

That was quick...

I just finished 2 logos to be submitted to Penn State York's Catwalk Club (unfortunately only one is showing up but the other is on my picaso). I have yet to hear back about changes.

Here is one of them*. I am really excited about it...

*Edit: I removed the picture from the post because I could not get it to show up correctly. It can still be viewed by clicking on "samples" right under my information or by clicking this link...

New Clients

Word of Mouth truly is a powerful tool. Since telling family members and friends about my project I have a great group of new clients. Welcome:

Penn State University- York Campus (York, PA-Catwalk Club- Club of fashion lovers with community service on their minds)

Safe on the front lines (York, PA- Organization focused on making sure the families of deployed soldiers are given security tools to stay safe while their loved ones are away, thus giving soldiers a better feeling of relief about being gone)

I am very excited to be working with both groups! Welcome!
